Clubfoot Treatment

A common birth defect that affects the muscles and bones of the feet is called clubfoot. A clubfoot turns in and points downward rather than straight. The toes point toward the leg on the other side as a result of this twisting. One or both of the baby's feet may be born defective. A child with a clubfoot won't experience pain or health issues until they are able to stand and walk. If left untreated, clubfoot can cause major issues and even impair a child's ability to walk. It's crucial to start fixing it as soon as possible, ideally within a week or two of the baby's birth. Often, doctors are clueless as to what causes clubfoot in infants. It may run in families and is more common in boys. Typically, a baby with clubfoot is healthy otherwise. Around the 20th week of pregnancy, an ultrasound is typically used to detect clubfoot. If not, a newborn is diagnosed with it. Clubfoot is not going to get better by itself. Surgery used to be the solution. However, today's medical professionals employ a sequence of casts, mild foot stretches and motions, and a brace to gradually realign the foot—a technique known as the Ponseti method.
