Meniscal repair is a surgical procedure to repair a torn meniscus using keyhole surgery. It is a minimally invasive procedure that is often performed on an outpatient basis. Factors affecting success include the age of the tear, location and pattern, age of the patient, as well as any associated injuries. The main functions of the meniscus include distribution of stress in the knee during load bearing, shock absorption, serve as secondary stabilizers of the joint (in a knee with a deficiency of the anterior cruciate ligament, the menisci will serve as joint stabilizers, provide nutrition and lubrication of the articular cartilage, facilitate joint sliding, prevent hyperextension and protects the edges of the joint. When the knee is flexed, the femoral condyles slide posteriorly on the tibial plateau in conjunction with the internal rotation of the tibia. the femur from contact with the posterior edge of the tibial plateau. The meniscus is divided into three zones: red-red, red-white- and white-white. The zones are divided by vascularization and thus healing potential. the red zone is the peripheral zone of the meniscus, it is very well supplied with blood and has a good healing rate. s differ in the vascularization of the medial and lateral meniscus, they range between 20-30 and 10-25% of the width. Red- the white zone is the middle third with less vascularization but can sometimes be the heel. The white-white zone has no blood capillaries at all and therefore it cannot heal.
